Re: Brewing Shed advice

No earth,no return path for the fault current ,no imbalance between phase and neutral,no reason for the rcd to trip

Re: Brewing Shed advice

, I'm obviously preferring the 'RCD just before the boiler on a long extension cable' option and if the Good Doctor and the Mad Hippy An rcd will be safe,it may however cause problems of nuisance tripping if an rcd is fitted in the house. If they can sell 30m extension leads rated at 13A then presu...

Re: Brewing Shed advice

And the RCD not working fast enough... you'd surely have to have some kind of huge reactance in the circuit to make that happen. Even if that was the case, you'd just need to to put a plug-in RCD at the business end of the extension lead to sort it out. no not at all,in the sparkys bible (bs7671,17...

Re: Brewing Shed advice

problem with a long extension lead on a heavish load is 1) volt drop ,2)earth loop impedance, meaning a slightly longer boil time and if something goes wrong the possibly the fuse or rcd may not work fast enough. How fars the shed from the fuse board? parts wise for a 20 meter run of proper cable rate...

Re: Burco Wiring Question

I think maybe the thermostat is in the switch (mid left) yep the blue thing is your stat I think I know what you mean, but what type of switch would I use? When 'full on', would I still need to switch on at the mains plug? you could use a standard toggle switch rated for at least 13A to bypass the ...

Re: Burco Wiring Question

Looks more like a neon indicator and normally sits in the green tube.To bypass the stat id put a switch between the 2 black/brown wires, then you can switch between stat control and full on.

Re: Kettle connections

Left is live. However ive found cutting a couple of mill of the face of the iec socket makes a much tighter fit, don't take too much of or you'll expose the metal contacts.
