Looks more like a neon indicator and normally sits in the green tube.To bypass the stat id put a switch between the 2 black/brown wires,then you can switch between stat control and full on.

Hope that sink is 2 meters (6 foot ) away from the fuse board or the man from the elecy board might get upset.
