I did get a sludge with hop pellets which made the run off into the FV a PITA. I ended up jugging the lot through a hastily sterilised sieve. That's why I don't use pellets any more. Same with me, I only use hop pellets for aroma, mixing them with the whole bittering hops, too much sludge otherwise.

I'm guessing the American "cider" isn't alcoholic? Adding yeast to British cider wouldn't have very much effect! On the subject of Christmas TC, who's going to be the first to add cinnamon, cloves and citrus to their next batch of TC? Be interested to hear how yours turns out Monk. :D I've no...

Be careful with this thread please  If I were in New Zealand where distilling spirits is legal I still wouldn't try it, I really don't mind paying over a few notes for something that has been aged ten years plus, I don't think that you could make anything better (if it was legal!) than the st...

As the pound is so strong against the dollar at the mo, can't we buy all the yanks hops  But seriously, I have seen a few other threads on some brewing websites and some homebrewers are buying hops by the pound! I think that panic buying (as another poster has already said) is probably dist...

Can't you get those stills to produce (ahem) distilled water legally? I saw one on the Hop&Grape website. Not that it interests me though, I go for single malt and waiting ten years for something that may or may not be nice tasting seems a little excessive to me, I don't mind shelling out a few quid...

Good news is my almondbury old has started well :D 24oC seems a little on the high side, around 18-20 will give you better results in the end. The brewery has won several CAMRA awards and the beer has always been tip-top (one of the best pints I ever had was one of their Swedish Nightingales in the Bell down the road from me). There was a lot of cleaning involved and Chris did keep clean what matters, plus he did shut the door when the yea...

Brewday at Malvern Hills Brewery 09/10/07
Firstly I must give my gratitude and thanks to Steve B. Chris the brewer and Justin the owner (who was layed up in bed due to illness, I think I may have somehow caught it from the way I am feeling today!) at MHB for setting this up for me. I really enjoyed my day here and it has planted the idea of...
