i too have a twang to the after taste of all the kits I brew. I must admit that the beer doesn't generally get conditioned for very long.

Rice Maltose querie

I was in my local asian supermarket a couple of days ago and I noticed 500g tubs of 'Maltose' for around 80p. I couldn't read all the labelling but the product is derived from rice rather than barley. A bit of googling and this is the nearest description i could find on the web http://www.syrup-chin...

Thanks DaaB. I must record that both brews that I used the supplied yeast with fermented out within 5-7 days. This was with following the kit instructions of sprinkling the yeast on top of the wort. No starter or nothing. First tasted okay, second is conditioning atm. It's just that I didn't really ...

Reusing yeast

Is it feasible to reuse part of the sediment from the primary fermentation to pitch a second batch or more?

Beer kit yeast

What kind of yeast is usually included in beer kits that you buy? For my current batch I bought some gervins English ale yeast and wi...

I'm wondering what problems people are worried about when discounting the use aquarium style immersion heaters inside the FV in direct contact with the wort?

Currently I'm using a heating belt but I have successfully used the boots thermostatic beer/wine heater in the past and never had a problem.

Even with the rubber off the inlet was still blocked, so I guess it's back to the shop I go. I should have a John Bull executive bitter to barrel this weekend FG allowing.

Thanks for the feedback. The schematic of the valve was just what I was looking for. Blimmin rubber ring is a bit fiddly isn't it.

S30 valve problem

I just bought a king keg with a fitted S30 valve. I have found that no gas enters the keg when screwing in the CO2 cylinder. It works fine with my other keg valve. Pressure is released with a pop when I unscrew the cylinder so it seems to be blocked somewhere in the valve. My question is, is this a ...
