Re: Youngs Mocha Porter
Sounds lovely! Have you tried it yet? If so, how would you describe the taste? Hi, I tried this on Wednesday. It tastes amazing. I know this may sound bold, but its as good as if not better than many ive bought in pubs. Deep & flavoursome, dark malt with that coffee bitterness. I wouldn't say it ha...

Re: Bottle carbonation, Woodforde Wherry Kit
Hi there, Im a fellow novice and wanted to share a tip for the Admirals reserve youre about to brew. This was my first brew and I had a few problems with a stuck fermentation. From advice on here I worked out that the instructions on the pack are over ambitious, I didnt provide enough oxygenation at...

Re: Youngs Mocha Porter
This has now been bottled and is tasting good following fermentation. Final Gravity was around 1.012. I bottled with about 60g dextrose diluted in a little cooled kettle water into the bottling bucket. I had read about others finding that the recommended amounts gave over carbonation. Looking good s...

Re: Super Fast Fermentation (slight panic)
Thanks for all the tips and advice. I bottled this after 2 weeks and its now sat inside carbonating for another 2 weeks before being transferred to the garage. I currently have 30 pints of Admirals Reserve conditioning in there and that should be ready soon. I did a taste test yesterday and its carb...

Re: Super Fast Fermentation (slight panic)
Thanks for all the helpful advice. Its my second brew and I appreciate all the tips I can get. Im guessing that this is also down to a better quality yeast that what came in my last kit, also I added a sachet of this enhancer that super charges the yeast and nutralises the chlorine in tap water. I w...

Re: Super Fast Fermentation (slight panic)
Cheers for the advice. I plan to leave until it drops below 1.010 and will most likely leave for the full duration.
I confess, Im excited to taste this one but plan to leave to mature once I have barrelled some and bottled the rest.

Re: Super Fast Fermentation (slight panic)
Sorry, forgot to mention it's only been 4 days. just wasnt expecting this much activity after such a short time. Everything sanitised before I go anywhere near the beer, ive drawn off and tested in a trial jar. Im just thinking that at this rate I may be racking off by the weekend. Or will the gravi...

Super Fast Fermentation (slight panic)
I started to brew a Mocha Porter from a kit. mixed this on Thursday Feb 15th, added a beer enhancer and used a different yeast to what was supplied as the nice guy in the brew shop recommended both (kit was past use by date) and the yeast had a Jan expiration date. Gave plenty of aeration at start a...

Youngs Mocha Porter
After visiting a brew store, I came away with a Mocha Porter Kit (amongst other items. Ive now mixed this & found it really easy. added a brew enhancer to help neutralise the tap water chlorine and feed the yeast. One thing i forgot (again) was to take a S.G. before I pitched the yeast. I remembered...

Advice on Kegs
Hello all, I have just purchased two secondhand Kegs, Muntons 5 gallon barrels. I know that once I collect these I should give a good clean and sterilise before using. Also Ive heard that the seals should be replaced every year or after about 4 brews. Im keen to buy these before I collect the barrel...
