Re: New BIAB boiler build.

sounds like the different tap options came in handy on your blockage brewday.. it was about this stage in my big shiny build i started feeling nostalgic about the simple plastic ghetto set up i knew like the back of my hand and was only limited in output volume.. good luck with the next brews. Your ...

Re: Building a hop back

Another option to consider perhaps could be a hop rocket/randle at serving. it would complicate serving, and is only really viable when your drinking/serving a good few pints, might not be an everyday commercial goer??

Re: Building a hop back

Might be worth putting having the hop back in the right place, traditionally its boiler -> hopback -> Chiller. you want the hot wort to hit the hops, not cold wort. Easyest way will to be buy a 40-50L mash tun with a perferated false bottom, gravity in from the boiler and then pump it out through t...

Re: Brite Tank Cooling with Maxi 110

My understanding (possibly wrong) is it needs the python pump on to stop the water freezing to much, ie if the pump doesn't come on the water could all turn to ice and the pump keeps it moving to stop it. Also I used a maxi 210 to control the temp on a 200l fermenter and it was fine and could crash...

Re: Building a hop back

IMHO a grain bag would imho be a much better option for filtering than a bazooka filter, way more surface area and therefore much less chance for a blockage. Probably a lot finer filter too. Also im sure your aware but a thermopot lid will/may not make an air tight seal even if clamped down, (i have...

Re: Brewday mistake--oops!

fwiw with my #1 biab brew i separated my hop packs into bowls to a) use and b) repack/store, when it came to the main boil hops i stuffed my socks with the fuller 'save' bowl contents and didnt realise until a good 30 minutes into the boil.. pulling the hot sodden and packed hopsock unknotting and e...

Re: Keeping my beer cool in this heatwave!

you may also need to add a little height/depth to the freezer to accommodate disconnects and trailing beer/gas lines with a wooden collar, this also provides for more solid thru the wall tap points too.

Re: Heat protection for a ghetto double tier set up

btw for a budget diy insulation have you considered making up a batch of waterglass (sodium silicate) which is a Hi temp resilient water based glue. you can use perlite or vermiculite as a balast for mixing with your sodium silicate to mold your own firebricks any shape and size you require.. If hap...

Re: Brite Tank Cooling with Maxi 110

Hi guys I'm interested in the option of switching the recirc. pump on / off while keeping the compressor running. I've got a maxi110 aswell. My only concern is the agitator side of things. I think the recirc and agitator are the same component meaning if you switch the pump on and off the agitator ...

Re: Brite Tank Cooling with Maxi 110

I agree with Lee, open it up and its fairly basic with a pcb switching the 240v a/c the compressor fan and pump all run off. all you need do is break the power feed to the pump and insert your controllers relay, a little wire extending will probably be in order.. and pull the power needed for your c...

Re: Am I killing my enzymes?

same insulated tun too?? are you prewarming the tun and striking at a good temp to achive your target mash temp still?? if your returning liquor is at a controlled 66c ?? then denaturing is unlikely as afaik most of the enzymes remain within the bulk of the grain, i would suggest perhpas getting the...

Re: Kw to boil 100 litres

fwiw when using a large grain bag hop spider which occupies a significant area of the surface of my 100l (98l) stockpot kettle i can maintain a good boil with a 2.4kw element with an 80l brew, i do have a 3kw and 2.4 kw elements fitted and use both to bring the wort upto boil as quick as possible, B...

Re: Washer sizing

Messing about with ptfe seems unreliable so the options seem to be your missing the point, or i failed to make it.. the ptfe is just to lube the threading of a snug fitting washer up the tapered thread and avoid the SS cold welding (edit as its easier to screw the washer up unevenly than it is perf...
