Re: Stuck fermentation or just finished?

I agree. Mine usually finish in about 4 - 5 days. I then leave them untill they have had 2 weeks in the fementer. This also then means i can bottle at the weekend as i brew on a weekend.

Re: #25 ESB.3

By and large since I switched to underletting I get much less of a problem with doughballs, but the last time I brewed the crush i got from the HBS was much finer and so I ended up getting quite a few. I think it's better overall, but you still have to watch out for it I am going to give it another...

If I remember correctly, According to Walter White an erlenmeyer flask is for measuring and mixing, not boiling.
Everytime i use mine i think of breaking bad :)

Re: #25 ESB.3

Did you check your spent grain for dry pockets? Like you, I tried underletting in my grainfather for my last brew, and also got a lower than expected OG. When emptying the grain onto the compost heap, I noticed quite a large pocket of dry grain at the bottom. I did mix the mash at the start, but ob...

Fingers crossed the brew turns out well.
This is the second time brewing the ESB.3 The last one was soon drunk :) Hopefully this one will be good too (apart from the lower OG this time)

Re: Boiling in an Erlenmeyer flask

Patience is the key. I put the water in, then the dme and then give it a good swirl. Then its onto a low heat and every minute or so i give it another swirl. This makes sure all the dme has dissolved. I then continue on a low heat swirling now and then untill it very slightly starts to bubble. The h...

Re: This makes no sense

One thing regards volume i have just remembered is, as has already been said when dealing with smaller volumes a slight error can cause a big difference. I was chasing a missing 1litre when i scaled down to 12l batches. I had calibrated the volume of the fermenter in litres and the boiler as well. W...

I’d advise to buy one before brewing this style - I’d planned a brew for ages and didn’t like the Wychwood one at all (I do normally like their beers).
Had a few different pumkin ales in the past, some good some not so good. So i do like the style and taste.

I retook the pre boil reading several times. I've just gone to the fermenter and retaken that one, plus I've tested the hydrometer with clean water.
I take it you have compensated for temperature?

Re: Grainfather - first impressions

Mine always overflows continusly throughout the mash. I can adjust the valve so it it does not overflow as much but it still does a bit. I dont see this a a problem, beer still turns out fine.

Get out in your local area and see who has any apple trees. They will probably be glad for you to come and pick them rather than going to waste. Bit of leg work needed LoL
Thats looking like my best bet.
