Re: Backer Element - Which One?
The leads are readily available for the 2.4kw elements, the 2.75 leads are rarely available now.

Re: Bottling wine
Short time, maybe a couple of months, they will be ok stood upright, but long term you want to look at laying them on their sides. Yours will be ok as they were only bottled recently. I always stand mine upright for about 3-5 days before putting them in my wine rack, this prevents "weeping" from the...

I use a whizz stick attached to a drill, as seen here. It's a good investment if you intend to make 5 gallon wine kits on a regular basis.

I push a length of plastic tubing on the bottom outlet of mine to prevent that as seen on the fourth photo here.

Re: Beaverdale Wine Kit
Re corking, I notice you use a two handled corker - is that the same as the Wilkos £15 one? I currently have a 'hand corker' from years ago but it's about as much use as a chocolate fireguard - every cork I ever put in with it got distorted out of shape and wouldn't go right into the bottle. Where ...

Re: Beaverdale Wine Kit
Hello JBK winemakers! :) I'm about to start a Beaverdale 6 bottle Cabernet Sauvignon kit, and have a couple of questions: - 1. The instructions seem straightforward and sensible, but is there anything else I need to know, or do you have any tips to ease my passage into winemaking Here's how I do mi...

Re: Cameron's Strongarm
I would love to attempt the black arts you mention but I have no idea where to start for a begginer. Dont you need loads of specialist equipment? Not really, there's nothing specialist or too complicated about ag brewing. Have a browse through this, a blatant plug I know! http://uk-homebrew.tripod....

I'll add my name to the "get a kit" list. I, like others, have found a fair variation in alkalinity levels over the years that I have used one.

Mrs H's lager: Lager Malt 2816g British Caramalt 402g Flaked Maize 402g Brewing Sugar 402g Saaz Hops 20 Bittering units, added at start of the boil. Estimated OG 1042 I normally use Saflager s-23 or brupaks lager yeast in that brew & both give good results if fermented around 14c-16c.

I've moved this to brewing equipment, hopefully you may get a response now. Sorry that I can't help on this one, I use a copper strainer myself.

Also, don't push the tap on those barrels fully back, if you do so it will be slightly open.

Try putting a "wanted" post in the articles for sale section, someone may have what you're looking for.
