High FG
Hi everyone, I brewed the brown porter from Greg Hughes's book on Sunday. Followed his grains and his mash schedule. Using the Wyeast 1028 yeast according to the book and beersmith, my FG should be finishing at about 1.012. Well, I'm at 1.016 and have been for a few days now. The fermentation went o...

Re: Maxi 210 chiller/cooler spares
Sorted it
The unit is full of water and appears to be dry - even after 7 days. I am happy with that.

Maxi 210 chiller/cooler spares
Hi all, I'm after some advice. I have a maxi 210 chiller and it leaks. I've taken it apart and the tank leaks. Can't see where the crack is but its definitely weeping water out of the bottom. To be honest, the tank doesn't look in great shape, the insulation at the base is a bit of a mess. Any ideas...

Re: Thoughts on what I have done with this Steam beer
Hi all, Thanks for all your feedback. Well, the beer is still in the fermenter (15 days today - works getting in the way of racking). What I was surprised about was the FG. According to Beersmith, I should have ended up with an FG of 1.011, instead, I am at 1.015. I know the mash temperature was on ...

Re: Glycol chiller advise
I doubt any on here has had both, you best bet for a comparison will be you tube. Someone over the pond will have reviewed them both. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro I have looked on youtube many times. There are separate reviews for each unit but not a back-to-back review or a review where ...

Re: Glycol chiller advise
I have never used a grainfather so I cannot comment on their quality, but there seemed to be a lot of folks who had initial issues with their G30 product. Its good theses issues were ironed out but it does make me wonder when/if the product will be actually finished or ready for general sale. This p...

Glycol chiller advise
Hi, I am looking at purchasing a glycol chiller but cannot decide which to go for, the grainfather or the ss brewtech 1/5hp version. I ferment in SS brewtech fermenters but both chillers will connect and control with my setup so that's not an issue. Does anyone use or used either and what would you ...

Re: Thoughts on what I have done with this Steam beer
But the FG style for steam beer is rated at 1.011 to 1.014. If I had mashed any lower I would be making FG of 1.009 and below - or am I missing something?
Mashing at the temperature I did (68C) should give me 1.010.

Re: Thoughts on what I have done with this Steam beer
Mashed in at 68C. With this yeast the predicted FG (according to Beersmith) is 1.010, slightly lower than the minimum 1.011 for the style.
Do you think this was a little high?

Thoughts on what I have done with this Steam beer
Got a California common beer from MM. It was a strange kit to be honest. It had Pils malt and munich that’s all, resulting in what would be a very light beer and the hops were Hallertauer Mittlefruh not northern brewer as you usually find. Sounds more of a lager. Anyway, rightly or wrongly I changed...

Re: Kolsch using Fermentum Mobile FM42 yeast advice
Hi Guy,
I was expecting 1.008
I'm controlling the temperature at 16C. It controlling nice and tight.
It's 6 days in now, I brewed last Sunday.
Its not tasting or smelling great that's all. Like I say a bad kit beer

Kolsch using Fermentum Mobile FM42 yeast advice
Hi all, m after some advice please... I brewed a Kolsch all grain 6 days ago (6/10/19). OG was 1.048. It was a really good brew day with all numbers just about bang on (apart from having to fish out a wasp from the boil). Anyway, I was given Fermentum Mobile FM42 from the MM as part of the Kolsch ki...

Re: What are your thoughts on this? Ok?
Just kegged this beer. The photos don't really help due to inside of the carboy having condensation etc on the inside. A close inspection and to me the surface looks full of clumped protein and yeast from the isinglass addition which have not sank. A taste test and it tastes fine, no iffy taste or s...

Re: What are your thoughts on this? Ok?
That's a shame. Haven't had an infection for a long time. I did brew this outside though as fed up with all the condensation in the kitchen. I did try and keep everything sterilised and clean and lids used where appropriate (chilling). Not sure whether to dump this. The thought of a beer which has a...
