Re: archer / Apollo hops
Hi Jonny. Yes it was 200g. The hops were going cheap from my local micro brewery and may have been hanging around a while there, and I wanted to use them up.It was a big steep and dry hop. For the amount of hops that went in it was bit disappointing. Didn't get much peachy/ floral thing as has been ...

Re: archer / Apollo hops
Hi Jonny. Never used Apollo but did a brew back in May using Archers which I am drinking now. From memory it was pale malt 4k,200gms crystal.Bittered with Northdown with the Archers going in 15,10,5 minutes with a steep and dry hop.MM West coast yeast. I found Archers quite a subtle hop, even using ...

Cornie newbie
So I have finally got round to filling one of my new cornie kegs with a pale ale (which have been sitting in the corner of my garage for months). What's the procedure for carbonation of my beer. I have gassed to 30psi, shaken the cornie for 5minutes(I assume helps saturates the beer with Co2),discon...

Re: dead spaces
Hi mk1paggy. Your dead space losses are what they are.5 litres dead space is not uncommon.Personally I would go ahead and brew and see what you end up with. Keep careful notes of the final volume/ gravity in the fermenter and adjust the grain bill/ total brew liquor on the next brew. As you probably...

DWB/DLS
Hi all. I am fairly new to water treatment and have just received my tap water analysis from Murphy & Son. I am advised to mix my recommended amount of DWB in with the mash. When I look at Brupaks DLS Water Treatment info they appear to recommend mixing the appropriate amount of DLS into the mash wi...

Re: Fermentation temperature
Hi Anthony Uk, Just had a tasting of the Batemans Victory Ale after five weeks in the cask. Quite fruity, slight sweetness,no off tastes. 4.4%,slightly lower than G.W. recipie but still damn good!

Using skimmed brewery yeast
On a recent visit to my local small Essex Brewery to pick up some beer,I enquired as to whether I could have any of their surplus skimmed yeast. They said if I were to bring a container along they could supply me with some. This is new territory for me as I have always used rehydrated dried yeast.Gra...

Re: Fermentation temperature
Hi Dave. Gravity was at 1018 eighteen hours after pitching from an Original Gravity of 1054. I guess I will have to see if the gravity drops any further over the next 24-36 hours. There still seems signs of yeast activity on top of the wort.

Fermentation temperature
Just fermenting a Batemans Victory Ale (A.G.). I pitched the yeast (Danstar Windsor) yesterday evening and set my wort heater to 18c as usual. Unfortuantely the heaters temperature control must be faulty as when I checked the temperature again 12 hours later it read 36c!. Of course I immediately swi...
