Re: Any good low ABV recipes out there?

Hi Kingfisher/Dave

There's a bunch of low-er ABV recipes available there (link) ... only a couple are down around the 3-ish% ABV, but there are some ideas you can work with there ... and I have brewed the Rye Wit one from there and would recommend it

Re: Free up space in fermenting chamber after 72 hours?

Hi opalko Any idea what would be the best way to determine that attenuation is 50% complete? ... erm, that would be to measure the gravity, 50% (or more) attenuation is when it's half of OG (or less) ... krausen may be an indicator that fermentation has started, but with strains like US05 it's no in...

Re: Free up space in fermenting chamber after 72 hours?

Hi opalko/vacant I believe what you are basically looking to do is use the "Brulosophy fast-ferment" approach that he advises for lagers, but up at ale temps with ale yeast :? ... have a look there (link) for details, where he recognises that this isn't really "his" approach but based on some recogn...

Hi Any chance of a link, please? I can't find it on the CAMRA site. https://shop.camra.org.uk/books/essential-home-brewing.html ... there's also a page on the Malt Miller's website (link) , where it will be available once published and it's interesting that, as sponsor of the book, Malt Miller will ...

Hi Steve I'm more interested in the Diacetyl Butterscotch potential ... there was a really interesting discussion on a thread on here a few years ago about methods of managing fermentations to retain some diacetyl impression (see there (link) ) ... definitely worth a read and thinking about, if that...

Hi Welktickler I've never got around to brewing it ... but I've got a link saved to that recipe on this forum, over there (link) for whenever it does (finally) get to the top of my "To Brew" list  If you get around to it before I do, let me know how close it is, won't you  Cheers, PhilB

Re: Late Hop Additions with 'No-chill'

Hi Meatymc I've never done any "cube-hopping" ... I've always removed my hops from the wort before transferring (by boiling them in hop socks) or separated them as part of the transfer (via a hop filter) into the no chill. You can't get the same results with no-chilling as you can by using late addi...

Re: Bottling without priming

Hi MTW You're right to highlight that! I think it must be a relatively recent, and welcome update to their site ... ... well, jaroporter was quoting that text on here nearly two years ago (link) , so I don't think it's that new :? ... but hey, who's got time to "read the manual" when there's beer to...

Re: Bottling without priming

Hi MTW Ermmm ... ... the Brewersfriend/Beersmith calculators have to be (at best) very unclear in asking for 'bottling' temperature ... ... but they don't :? ... at least not on the priming calculator I use on the Brewer's Friend websit, that one there (link) , is that the one you're talking about? ...

Re: spray malt for all grain

Hi Ronnie My idea was to use dme is to replace the amount of grain volume when at the mashing stage to save space in my tun. ... ahhhh, I'm sorry I saw "all grain" in the title and have misunderstood the question  ... I realise now you're asking about a partial-mash/mini-mash approach, in whic...

Re: spray malt for all grain

Hi Ronnie Quite separate from the discussion about whether DME needs boiling or not ... Now I have decided that I want to use spray malt instead of sugar in my grain beers also. ... I'd question why you would add DME to an AG brew at all :? We can see that "kit and kilo" kits in general have been pr...

Hi Charlie I'm very open to suggestions for other salt based pickles. ... preserving some lemons (link) is worth well more than the time/effort involved in preparing them ... the flavours they add to tagines, casseroles, curries, even fishy pasta dishes are amazing  Sorry to interject Mashman,...

Hi Tomp OG was planned as 1060, and actual was 1052 so Beer Smith reckons this equates to 53% :-( ... I apologise if this is "teaching grandmothers to suck eggs" here, but I think it's worth checking that you are comparing like with like there ... you don't mention the volume the recipe was intended...
