Is a hop rocket really necessary?
I really like the current trend for "juicy" tasting modern beers.. Some feel that a hop rocket is the key to this, presumably by not brewing a particularly bitter beer but then putting a ton of hops in the hop rocket and pumping the wort through that prior to chilling. My question is do I really nee...

Re: What hose for wort chiller
Thanks for all the ideas. I went for the "food grade reinforced hose" in the end. At only £8 it was half the price of some of the better stuff and I just need need to to be OK for waste water and not kink when the water is hot. Fingers crossed!

Re: Grainfather options
I use a Bosch kettle that lets me set it to 70c and has a keep warm button. It holds 1.5l so I just heat up my sparge water like that. Only downside is im using untreated water from the tap as my sparge water. (I don't really care though!!)

Re: What hose for wort chiller
The stuff on eBay looks promising thanks for that. It claims to be food safe but in any case it should never be in contact with the beer as it's just carrying away the water from the chiller. The issue I've been having is that the garden hose kinks, flow stops and then the hose blasts off the end of...

What hose for wort chiller
I'm sick to death of the green bog standard garden hose kinking when I first use the wort chiller. It gets hot, it goes soft, it kinks. Could someone please suggest some tubing that will easily connect to my wort chiller. It has a fitting to directly accept standard garden hose on both ends but I gu...

Re: INTRODUCING: Seymour Citra Dark
I'm going to try this! I've been loving Marble Beers Black Sunshine IPA recently so I'm coming round to the idea of dark hoppy beers

Re: Next Brew
Aren't a lot of their recipes a bit like that? I think they calculate a lot of bitterness from the big hop additions towards the end. Perhaps in reality you get a lot of hop but not so much bitterness?

Re: New Braumeister Owner Questions
23L and 3L sparge is looking good for my brews that I'm doing for standard 19L corny kegs.

Re: USA brewer looking for that "best" english bitter
It also strikes me that for a proper English beer you could do with something better than an "English Ale" dry yeast. While many of these products are reliable, they are not that tasty and this is really important when brewing subtle traditional English beers. Have you thought about buying yeast sla...

Re: USA brewer looking for that "best" english bitter
Can't but help correct you on a couple of things BW. Its spelt BISCUIT! We're English not French! And Styrians are from Slovenia. I certainly agree with your perception of our hops though. We gave away too many from the extensive breeding program in the early part of last century becau...

Re: USA brewer looking for that "best" english bitter
Besides, I bet they have used substitute hops from Zee Jermans at some point. :D Needs must and all that. I really doubt that a brewery as large as Fuller's would not have their hop supply tied up years in advance. Besides you could possibly get away with subbing the bittering hop but not the late ...

Re: Loweswater gold
The Danish recipe looks good and I think it will be closer to the original than it will the current recipe brewing. I'm guessing they have been scrimping on the expensive American hops so Amarillo and Citra use will have been somewhat curtailed. I think I might brew that danish recipe myself... Sent...

Re: Green devil
I think that Oakham make Citra and Green Devil a bit more bitter than you would perhaps expect. Maybe go for hop additions at 60, 30, 15, 5 and flameout and have a small to modest dry hop. My Citra recipes that have followed this format have been closer to the Oakham ones than when I've focussed on ...

Re: Grainmeister
That's very impressive. I wish I could be bothered to make something like that. In the end of course I just bought a Braumeister but people who make their own (really good) homebrew equipment impress me. The best I've done is make some kegerators and adapt some equipment to use in my cordless drill!!
