Re: Panic - Brew wont get going!
Sooo. its finally going but a few observations! Gravity was down to 1035 so far last night but fermentation seemed to be slowing and foam was very very thin. I stired the FV up a little with my ladel and it suddenly went beserk! I mean seriously! It virtually blew the liquid out of the air lock :) W...

Re: Panic - Brew wont get going!
Just got home. The kitchen was 15c and not 18c as I had thought :) Im going to move it into the babys nursery as its a bit warmer in there! Only 18c/19c though but should be better. The head of foam has increased a little so I will not re-pitch or take the SG for now to risk making it worse. I will ...

Re: Panic - Brew wont get going!
PS Sorry missed the suggestions on re-hydrating yeast. Is this necessary with standard S04? I didnt realise. Normally I have mounds of foam and its a struggle to contain the fermentation. Surely a beer of this garvity/sugaryness should be even more so. How do you encourage a thorough fermentation wi...

Re: Panic - Brew wont get going!
Im at work and havent check the OG as of yet. I am wary of opening the Fv too much while it seems so stagnant and without its CO2/foamy protection. Very worried about it spoiling. I have just texted my partner at home to check the temperature and report back. I am clinging to this as a reason. If I ...

Few AG questions
Hello, Nearly there on my quest to upgrade my AG equipment and skills in time for my next brew (Fullers ESB clone). I have an old Burco boiler such as this: http://www.falklandwool.com/designs/images/boiler_for_lichen_dyeing.jpg Do you leave the element cover in place when using it for homebrew? Its...

Got my water analysis - what adjustments should I make?
Hi there, Im looking to brew a Fullers ESB clone next week and wondered if my water needed adjustment. So I contacted Welsh Water for a report and got the following reply: Dear Mr Holland, Thank you for your recent enquiry regarding the quality of your incoming supply. Please find attached a copy of...

Re: First proper brew & ESB advice shop!
Thank you for the flurry of very useful replies. There is a lot of knowledge round here. The flaked maize was in most of the reciepes I saw. I have it now so will kind of have to use it now even though i am not sure what exactly it does? I think it is there to boost the sugar gravity/alcohol content...

Bucket for electric DIY boiler
Where is the cheapest place in the UK to get a bucket for building a kettle element boiler for 5 gallon brews.
Im ideally looking for a 6 Gallon plus bucket to allow headroom.
Everywhere seems to charge a packet for something that costs next to nothing to manufacture?!?!?
Thanks,
Dean.

First proper brew & ESB advice shop!
Hi there, So I made a lot of kit beers as a teenager, had a lot of good times taking my pressure barrels to parties but mostly it tasted like pond water. Now in my late twenties - My dad convinced me to do an all grain brew or two last year and it was relatively succesfull. He used to brew great all...
