Re: where next

Old post i know but i've done a few brews since and needed to clarify what the problem was. I have kept to my normal cleaning regime and it seems that it was not using a bottle brush that caused the issues. all my brew bottles have been crystal clear since using a bottle brush, can't say that for so...

Re: lid on Lid off

That is a great idea, and with a slight downhill slope avoids the drips running back. Nice one! How does the plastic cope with the heat? Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk No problem Brewedout, if you look at the first picture you may just be able to see a very slight distorsion/bending of the pi...

Re: lid on Lid off

I should think that must work very well, worth noting that the exhaust pipe is inclined downwards so any condensation will run outside. The vessel looks a reasonable size be interested in more details of this out of curiosity. Yes jocky thats the "y" piece but with an extra piece of pipe to lift it...

Re: lid on Lid off

I did want to put a pic of the brewery but i lost it, it's only our old kitchen units and sink but nice to have...

Re: lid on Lid off

What you describe would seem to be similar to that used commercially and I can't visualise any problem provided you boil for a suitable duration. Exactly, I would say you have a system which is in many ways superior to just leaving the lid off. I think my wife would definitely agree as I boil up in...

lid on Lid off

I know the informed wisdom is to remove the lid when boilng wort but i have a hole cut into my lid with positive extraction of the steam and out of the shed. If i lift the lid no steam escapes and is exhausted by the fan. Would this system be as good as boiling with the lid off? I've used this metho...

Re: Hydrometer vs Refractometer for OG

Refractor for the OG and Hydrometer for SG because OG wort is not nice to sample/drink but SG is, so i use both. Also you'll throw away OG sample (about 1/2 pint?) but drink the SG :D

Re: Sorry, still need some clarification with Stan San

I use RO water from one of those aquatic shops (it's cheap) and i dont get a problem, yes it's pain to collect but it lasts a long time. I used to get a problem with it going milky and i found that it was because my bottles weren't dry before starsaning.

Hmm, worth a thought. What do you reckon then Tourer? Up for it? I guess we'd have to start a new thread. Not sure I have the experience to suggest a recipe but maybe one of the more experienced members could? What about style? I'm thinking it might too late for a winter warmer? Those stronger ales...
