Re: Beef and Ale pie recipe needed desperately
Hi Dave I must admit I've never followed their recipe (at the end) ... but I do find the way that that article from the Guardian (link) shows all its "working out", discussing the pros and cons of the different options, makes an interesting read :? I suppose, as when brewing beer, getting thi...

Re: Brew Your Own British Real Ale (3rd Edition)- Graham Whe
Hi TempTest Now, if only I could find a copy! Seems everybody has changed to selling the 4th Ed... And I'm not going to paying £30+ as it seems some sellers have it listed. ... If you are set on sticking to the older edition, you will probably find a copy lurking on the shelves of high street book s...

Re: Brew Your Own British Real Ale (3rd Edition)- Graham Whe
Well as Graham himself presents a somewhat dim view of the 4th edition ... ... Oh, I haven't read these latest posts like that :? ... the way I've seen them is more that Graham has (largely) not been involved in the update, but he has provided some new/updated text for some areas. Mostly it's a re-...

Re: Brew Your Own British Real Ale (3rd Edition)- Graham Whe
Hi Graham It makes me want to "thcream and thcream 'till I'm thick". ... oh dear, that doesn't sound good :( I don't suppose it's any recompense to you that many of your "competitors" aren't faring much better ... the Law and Grimes, "The Homebrew Handbook" (which is definitely way over at...

Re: Brew Your Own British Real Ale (3rd Edition)- Graham Whe
Hi Graham Aaahhh, I see now ... they've re-labelled the recipe from Thwaites Dark Mild to Thwaites Nutty Black (quite possibly like Thwaites have done with the beer, I suppose :? ) I'm going to have to retune my "exactly the same thing, in new packaging" radar I think ... otherwise I'll end up spend...

Re: Brew Your Own British Real Ale (3rd Edition)- Graham Whe
Hi Graham I did think I had seen mention of it being the 4th edition somewhere in it ... but then I was flicking through it in a bookshop with one eye on the stairs waiting for MrsB to come and haul me away from the cookery/brewing section  ... your comments do now help to explain the forward ...

Re: Brew Your Own British Real Ale (3rd Edition)- Graham Whe
Hi All Found a copy of the latest (4th Edition) to Grahams book in a Waterstone's over the weekend, so it's definitely out now ... also available there (link) ... good to see you're "back in the saddle" Graham =D> The book looks a lot more colourful and "modern" now, I'd say definitely new an...

Re: Re-pitch question
Hi Blackaddler/Dave I'd be more worried about off-flavours than infection. I'm more concerned about off flavours from large replication of the yeast because of my under pitch rather than sanitation. ... I can see that that is a concern for this brew ... but I'd like to know how you feel those off fl...

Re: back liquoring?
Hi Dave
Thanks for that ... and look, it uses a whole pack of hops
Dave (bigdave), sorry once again for the intrusion in your thread ... you can get on with talking about liquoring back now though
Cheers, PhilB

Re: back liquoring?
Hi Dave
Thanks for the feedback ... sounds good ... and I just happen to have some Flyer in and have been wondering what to do with it ... when you say "same schedule and grain bill with Flyer" ... do you mean in place of the Cascade, or the EKG, or both?
Cheers, PhilB

Re: New BJCP Style Guidelines
Hi Ali ... [Outline descriptions of the White IPA, Red IPA, Brown IPA and Black IPA styles] ... Does that help explain things? ... yes it does, thank you  PhilB wrote: and that was bound to beg the question "could I just brew a White IPA, split the brewlength four ways, adjust three of the qua...

Re: back liquoring?
Hi Dave (DaveGillespie) I Maxi-BIAB (helped out greatly by PhilB in the beginning - cheers again!). 10th batch currently ... good to know you're still at it, you don't seem to have been around for a while now ... and thanks for the thanks  ... I've been hoping you would show up sometime (somew...

Re: ClarityFerm question
Hi Manngold I wouldn't disagree with any of Aleman's advice ... but if it's "light / golden ale, or lager" you're looking to brew, have you looked at the Gone With the Wheat, gluten free beer kits based on sorghum syrup? They tend to be lagers or light ales anyway, AIUI there are problems with roast...

Re: New BJCP Style Guidelines
Hi Ali ... it seems that a four page thread appeared because a few people like to twist the knife in the BJCP at every turn. ... I must admit, I haven't got any sense of that from the posts in this thread :? ... but maybe you're more attuned to that given your position. I'll apologise if I initiated...

Re: back liquoring?
Hi Dave
Sorry, my mistake ... I think I saw the 8% Malice Porter in your sig and thought that was the kind of beer you always brewed
In which case, the efficiency shouldn't be a problem ... unless you want to make another 30 lts of Malice Porter sometime
Cheers, PhilB
