Re: 32.5 Qmax Cutter

Best (cheapest) place I found when looking for a smaller one was Lawson HIS. Bonus was they're local to me so I avoided postage costs by collecting in the branch.

Re: Getting started with my first recipe...

If this is your first attempt I'd keep it as simple as possible. I'd just halve all the ingredients and the water volumes and go from there. You'll be brewing slightly less than your stated capacity but halving everything makes it very simple.
Good luck

Re: new hlt build - finally completed

@kisslikeether - hi glad you like it, the sight glass was a 15mm external diameter so I slipped the olive on to the tube then wrapped a few turns of PTFE on top of the olive, then hand tightened the compression nut. Next I filled the boiler and waited for the joint to weep, then I tightened the nut ...

Re: new hlt build - finally completed

@minesapint - I was surprised how cool the underside was, but heat rises and I have two layers of camping foam between the water\element and the electrics, in practice I don't think it goes beyond 25-30c in the base and the sight glass stays at room temp.

Re: Perry - anyone done this from pears?

I've tasted a few bottles now , unexpectedly mild pear flavour but it develops after a few mouthfuls. Actually very nice, I'll be begging for more fruit next autumn!
Definitely recommended

Re: Comical

Hi and welcome! Wow, you did have a lot of grief! Don't worry though, you have still made beer. When I've made mistakes or things go wrong I found out that you still get good beer, just not as good as it could be. I'd really recommend doing a full run through with water alone, I did this and it high...

Re: Fridge dial

That depends on how the STC is wired in, in my fridge the original fridge stat is disconnected completely, the STC controls the compressor and a heater. So the stat can be set to anything you like it's now purely decorative. If the fridge stat is somehow wired in as well as the STC then you'd need t...

Re: Bottle capper

I've used a hammer capper, a two-hander and now use a homemade bench capper. I'd definitely recommend the bench capper whether shop bought or homemade they're so much better and quicker. I used the bell from my elderly boots hammer capper screwed to a round block of wood mounted in a drill press for...

Re: Thermo pot hole size

You attach to the inner hole, the larger one is just to give better access for tightening the nut on the fitting. Without knowing what size thehole is its impossible to say exactly what you need. I used a tank connector on my hlt (its not a thermopot its a burco), same thing on my tun, I fitted a fi...

This?

Not 17v exactly but switchable between 16v and 19v. What are the pump specs? If there's any leeway on the 17v this ought to do it

Re: Today I are mostly pressing Yarlington Mills

But so rewarding! Sounds like you have a great variety of trees, lovely to see you're using them, any chance of pictures? I pressed 40l worth of apples and 22l of juice from pears this year. All from fruit which would otherwise have gone to waste so I feel virtuous for not letting them rot. Trying t...

Re: 6000w element

How would I wire it? My brewshed has 2 x 2.5mmT&E ring mains fitted. I'd put one element on one of them and a second (or wire 2&3 in series to get a lower power) on the other ring. By my calcs that'd give either 2 2400w elements or 1 at 2400w and the 2 in series giving about 1200w with a really low ...

Re: 6000w element

It's a 10 gallon job, has a 3kw butterfly element now, I thought one of the three would be about 2400w at 240v, then a second could be a booster to get a rapid boil going initially, the third would be a backup.
It just semed like a really neat solution to fitting more than one element!
