brewing gloves

Hello, it's Christmas list time. Have any of you had experience with the Brewferm gloves on Brew UK, are they worth the money or are they glorified marigolds.

Re: Wilkinson’s 4inch pressure barrel

I came across this old post, i have a couple of these kegs and have had similar issues. Firstly the tap, i had to cut off a couple of threads as i found that they bottomed out before the washer sealed. Then the cap, firstly with a flat board and wet & dry rub over the top of the barrel to remove any...

Re: Off Flavours

Thanks for all of your reply's , i did a smaller brew yesterday with the lid completely off and see how it goes. The grain is fresh and i crush it myself. In the past i have boiled with the lid partly on and not had any problems, it seems to be since i fitted the flu that the problems started. At 65...

Re: Off Flavours

I can't describe the flavour, a sulphur smell comes to mind and something else that i can not place, i don't have a condensation trap but the flue is angled upwards and then vertical out the back of the shed.
Would any condensation running back into the boiler not be sanitized anyway.

Re: Off Flavours

Thanks for your reply, sulphur comes to mind but something else as well that i can't place. Another thing came to mind since my post, i bought a 500g pack of dried yeast in June last year that has been kept in the freezer, the freezer packed up before Christmas. It was caught quickly, some things ha...

Off Flavours

I have been getting off flavours and smells in my brews recently, the only change to my process this year was to fit a 65mm dia flexi stainless tube to the lid of my 100 litre boiler. Before that the boiler would be partly covered with the lid during the boil. The tube is long enough to bend upwards...

Dilution Calculator

Hello, it might sound a daft question, does the dilution calculator on here work the same for cider as it does for beer.

Re: Getting Fruity?

Hello all, i'm trying a fruity turbo cider for the first time. using 4l of apple juice and was planning to top up with 1/2 litre summer fruit cordial after fermentation, the cordial contains sorbates. will it still carbonate a little after bottling.

Ideal Hop bags

Called at Sainsbury's last night looking for some veg, they don't have paper bags anymore to put your loose veg in. They have handy sized net bags instead, ideal hop bags 30p.

Re: first attempt at cider, how much yeast per 5 gallon

Thanks for the reply, i used a Young's cider yeast in one and Young's all purpose white wine yeast in the other. Is it ok to add the nutrient a couple of days in.

first attempt at cider, how much yeast per 5 gallon

Hello, had a bumper crop of apples this year shame to waste them, managed to press 10 gallons of juice. I used a 5g sachet of yeast per 5 gal but a slow start so far compared to what i am used to with all grain. Any advice appreciated.
