Re: Brewing in a drought!!

I've done a few no-chill brews and they all worked well. Hot wort goes into a plastic jerrycan which is then sealed. Next day (or next week), pour into a fermenter and add yeast. Or don't. I've added yeast to the jerrycan and used a blow off tube.

Re: Spotless Water

Vacant: what pump do you use to circulate the water? One of the reasons I was thinking of using Spotless water rather than RO is that I use about 50 litres of water to cool 23 litres of beer which I then use to clean and water the garden, but don't really want to produce any more 'waste' water, as ...

Re: Spotless Water

Is brewing with RO water such a good idea? Hence "top up with 10-15 ltr very hard tap water". In the early days I tried one brew with 100% RO and built the profile with chemicals and it worked great (and I noticed a recipe on Jim's recently that did the same). However, with my hard water at around ...

Re: Spotless Water

You can buy your own RO filter system for £35. I filter around 35 ltr RO the day before a brew, top up with 10-15 ltr very hard tap water. Around 150 ltr waste water is saved for cooling the wort through my immersion chiller. This warms up the waste water which is collected again and used to clean k...

Re: Dirty bottles

I've side-stepped your problem as I'm using PET bottles now. My son drinks my beer when they visit at the weekend and I sometimes send him home with a couple of litres ... but they do provide me with a constant supply of empty 2 litre cola bottles. Why not fill a couple of PETs each brew as you can ...

Re: Temporary hose and tap ...

I wonder if a 40 ltr Aquaroll would solve the problem. To empty it either a pump or hoist it (on a platform as I don't think the handle is meant to take that much weight).

Really? Who's taking they're homebrew into a pub to drink? Fairer to compare supermarket prices:

This is one one I head for: Flock (£3/l or £1.70/pint).

My thoughts exactly, at least "standard answer #1" doesn't cost £35.

Re: 2015 BM20 skipping steps

Unless you started using the kit it a new way that coincided with it starting to skip steps, I can't see how the problem is caused my firmware. Did they elaborate?

I use them. My last delivery was November, ordered at 10:30pm on a Friday and arrived Monday using the standard £7.95 delivery charge.

Re: Do you use campden tablets?

I could never taste the difference when I forgot the tablet so I stopped. If you're worried you could vent for 24 hours, or boil for ten minutes ... then again you could heat your water as normal for the mash and the Chlorine would probably be mostly gone when you reach strike temp.

Re: Priming

I use mostly 2ltr PET bottles and a few 500ml glass bottles which makes it simple to prime with a syringe. 20ml into a PET and 5ml into glass. Taking my last brew, it was about 35ltr so adding a bit just in case, I looked up the amount of sugar for 40ltr which was 130g then put that in a jug and add...
