Re: Making ginger beer
Yeah, I realise you can make it from yeast. I'm talking about making traditional low alcohol ginger beer though.

Making ginger beer
I've just found out about the 'ginger beer plant' so I ordered some off ebay.
Has anyone got any tips for using this?
I presume I can just ferment in a normal bucket?
Does it take longer to ferment because of the bacteria eating the alcohol, I'm intrigued how you know it's done.

Re: Filtering and hop'ing
Yup that's exactly what I'm using it for Wolfy.
I managed to fix the leaks in the Hop filter, using 2 sets of O-Rings for each black BSP connector.
So I should have citra infused beer this evening.

Re: Filtering and hop'ing
Theres a 100g of hops in there, which seemed to give a good citrus flavour using Citra while it worked
I'm just running it in the same way it was designed, the hops are in the 'inlet' section of the filter.

Re: Filtering and hop'ing
Yeah I've just tried it out, and I've been having no end of problems.
The filters for some reason started leaking beer out of the inlet/outlet, going to give oilybits a ring about that.

Filtering and hop'ing
Just ordered some filters from oily bits, which seem pretty well made. They were bigger than I was expecting them to be in person. I've got one with a 1 micron replaceable filter, to filter out yeast. And another with an 80 micron washable filter, which I've put hops around the outside of. I've used...

Re: Two cornies to one tap
The gas lines are on the left (with no-return valves), attached to a regulator you can't see, which is then attached to the mixed gas cylinder.

Re: Cheap stainless conical
Yeah, I'm going to have a long think before I go conical. In the meantime I've just found this http://www.pinta.it/prodotti/251/fermentatore_inox_tronco_conico_200_lt_.html which seems to be the cheapest price I've found for an SS conical. (Obviously if they do deliver to the UK that's not going to ...

Re: Cheap stainless conical
Aha, interesting information Kev, I'll bear that in mind.
I have thought about using one of those UN grade drums, but am really liking
the idea of a conical for collecting what should be a lot of yeast.

Re: Cheap stainless conical
The one I've found was including the frame too actually - looks like the same one.
So the one I've found works out ~£30 cheaper I think.

Re: Cornelius keg fittings
For threaded I think I used these http://www.hopandgrape.co.uk/public/det ... PE20153452
I used the 3/8" as my regulator has 3/8" output, and I also use 3/8" for my beer line.

Re: Cheap stainless conical
I'm contemplating now going plastic, as they're a lot cheaper, and probably not much difference.
I found a seller doing one for 200L for ~£230 shipped.
