Re: Wen's Lunch (Patersbier) AG BIAB #8
It's Dingemans Pilsen malt, and the only time I get a decent head with it is when I use wheat malt or torrefied wheat with it. No protein rest, and the water is heated to strike temp before doughing in. The only time it's heated with the grain present is going from 65°C to 76°C for the mash-out. I g...

Re: Ordered a Brewie! Have any good recepies?
You'd just need to convert them for the efficiency you got with the machine, the same as you do for recipes designed for 3V to make them work on BIAB, and also to calculate the water to use at various times too. I enjoy the blending of simplicity, with the various stages you still have to perform yo...

Re: Wen's Lunch (Patersbier) AG BIAB #8
So, this one came out very very clear, no visible haze at all. Nice and fizzy, pouring with a big white head, that vanishes in seconds flat.... Given there's only Pilsen malt in there, probably not a surprise that. Flavour, well it's surprisingly clean given I used CML Belgian Ale yeast, maybe a tin...

Re: Ordered a Brewie! Have any good recepies?
I'd love a Bulldog Masterbrewer to be honest. For all the flaws with the controller, the anti scorch feature and double walls are big selling points for me! The thought of been able to make wheat beers with ZERO chance of scorching on... On the flip side, a 50 litre Brewdevil, purely because o...

Re: Ordered a Brewie! Have any good recepies?
Maybe a dishwasher is not a great analogy. Probably a breadmaker is better. Our bread maker used to do a very good job, my wife won't use it now as a load of baby spiders hatched in it and she saw them flooding out of it.... We didn't make bread as a hobby though, or call ourselves brewers, w...

Re: Ordered a Brewie! Have any good recepies?
It's my personal opinion bud from making kits, even the best I made didn't really taste like actual beer.... So standing by my statement than in my opinion kits are yack. I get what you mean about "just works". I've been quite enjoying the process of adding recirculation to my ACE, and am still plan...

Re: Ordered a Brewie! Have any good recepies?
I think most people will see it as largely taking away what they enjoy about brewing. Most enjoy the practical aspect aswell as the final product ! It's an expensive system that has a long waiting time after delivery from a company that doesn't seem to have a great reputation. I'd guess it has limi...

Re: engine hoist for large grain biab
Or you could just break with traditional method and do what I do. Drain the wort away from the bag, rather than removing the bag from the wort. I do it that way as I move my boiler between mashing and boiling, which is a lot easier to do with an empty boiler.

Re: Recirculation pump on an ACE boiler
Made a couple of alterations to the return and lid. First up, I moved the mini ball valve tap from the pump to the U-bend. I was finding it difficult to adjust attached to the pump, plus this allows me to shut the flow off further up the pipe. It also extends the length of the top of the inverted U,...

BIAB AG #10 Mr Pump's Braggot "Your safety is my concern"
I brewed this yesterday. Anyway, this one is a big time, experimental, hybrid brew. A super hoppy (I'm talking near on AIPA levels...) braggot, but with an almost Saison grain bill fermented with Belle Saison yeast.... Bonkers... Targets:- OG: 1.060. FG: Beersmith 2 told me 0.998  which is ap...

Re: engine hoist for large grain biab
Would a set of ladders fit? If so you could use them as an A-frame to attach your hoist to.

Re: Mashing and Sparging
The main BIAB forum will insist that true BIAB is always full volume, with no sparge, so yes you can do it without sparging. You might find you need to use a bit more grain though, as I found that not sparging reduces efficiency. Sounds like you could do with a HLT (hot liquor tank) to heat your spa...

Darn it! Whilst I was typing this, I overshot the pitching temp.... That's fast! I now need to warm it back up....

Re: Recirculation pump on an ACE boiler
Here you go, this is it just hooked over the rim of the boiler, whilst cooling the wort. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=az_6Ne-E8ws Works just fine like that, and you can see that it's doing a good job of speeding up cooling. From boiling to 27 degrees took 14 minutes.... If I separate the coils of...

Re: Recirculation pump on an ACE boiler
Yeah, will definitely do the job. My software is telling me that after mashing and sparging, I got 82% efficiency into boil (26 litres with an SG of 1.025, from a teeny tiny grain bill), so numbers are good from no stir recirculating mash... I was going to do the same as you, and just recirculate th...
