Re: Ringwood Brewery Yeast - Advice on using
It's an English style brewery so not much in the APA. They do make a big (6.5%) pale and its not bad.
I'd use it for the Goose Island, when I've made a beer similar to their IPA I used an English style yeast WLP005.
good luck

Re: Ringwood Brewery Yeast - Advice on using
My local brewpub here in the US (well, not too local) uses Ringwood. I've yet to use it myself, but will be getting some to use within the next week or so. Here is what the brewer told me: Ferment in an open bucket Give the yeast a good bit of oxygen or aeration when you pitch Every day, get in ther...

Re: Batch Sparge Mash Question
I concur with the above. I often calculate my 3nd and 3rd additions based on draining the initial mash.
I would recommend a 60 minute mash. I don't think you're getting anything out of that extra 30 min. Sometimes my mash is complete in about 45 min.

I've gone hop crazy
Making a hop purchase for an Imperial Amber (Troegs Nugget Nectar) and replenishing my stocks, I seem to have gotten carried away: 8 oz Nugget 4 oz Palisade 4 oz Simcoe 4 oz Warrior 12 oz Centennial 4 oz Columbus 4 oz Cascade 4 oz Chinook 4 oz Challenger (U.K) 4 oz East Kent Gold (U.K.) 4 oz Willame...

Is it a chest freezer that you'll be loading from the top? If so, build a collar and drill all your holes through that.

You could make a mild. Brew and ferment in >1 week. Bottle/keg for another week.

Re: Stripping an Angram
Also wanted to mention that a regulator from a gas/propane grill can serve as a cheap cask breather. As it's purpose is to take the propane bottle's output and step it down to 1 psi.

Re: Stripping an Angram
Good luck with the rebuild. You'll be hard pressed to get any help from Angram themselves, but there are other companies that rebuild which are willing to dispense of their knowledge.

Re: What happens when sanstar is too concentrated?
I would say that when using a higher concentrated dose of StarSan you lose the ability to use it wet. Meaning I'd wait for it to completely dry before adding wort to a fermentor, for example.

Re: Infection
Ive just finished a rough stretch like yours. I can tell you that I now make sure I clean the boiler valve before each brew, I give the IC a quick clean before putting into the boiler and I've thoroughly bleached everything within 3m of where I do my transfers. I've retired my bucket and only use gl...

Re: Dry Hopping Technique
Sorry for being vague. When I toss hops directly into the corny I've attached a small (~5cm) piece of stainless braid to the end of the dip tube. Wish I had a picture.Andy__ wrote: Just having a bit of trouble visualizing that.

Re: Dry Hopping Technique
If you're using whole hops then the majority will float at the top. Put a strainer on your racking cane and you should be fine. I've put a strainer on the dip tube of my corny and tossed hops directly into the keg.
