Got questions

Post by John Senior » Wed Nov 18, 2020 9:09 pm

I'm relatively new to home brewing i bought a GrainFather about four years ago, made a few brews which ranged from drinkable to one we christened Ebola it was that bad

I haven't done any brewing for about 18 months and have just started up again but need to improve my brewing performance.

Ive just bottled a Honey Porter and have an 80/- in the brew fridge bubbling away , I'm following recipes from the GrainFather site but seem to be losing too much liquid during the boil so instead of having 23/24 liters going into the fermenter I'm having 19/20 liters instead. Gets me more ABV but it also increases the bitterness and ultimately less bottles of beer.

can I get away with putting more water through the sparge, or boiling for less that 60 minutes

Anyway I'm John and I'm enjoying brewing even the cock-ups

You could just top up the water in the fermenter before adding the yeast. There are calculators available to help you work out how much water to add to get the OG that you were aiming for.

Welcome John. :)
