Carapils

Post by maxashton » Mon Jul 28, 2008 12:22 pm

Hi folks,

Just wondering what sort of ratios should be used for Carapils. I have a 5kg mash planned for making lager in the winter (bad efficiency, batch sparge and inept brewer ;) ). I was planning 300gms of Carapils. Is that going to give me the head retention i am looking for? Would i be better off using a synthetic additive to obtain the head retention?

You are never better off using a synthetic additive :D

I am happy using up to 5% carapils in my Pilsners, although going as high as 10% is possible. If I really want to cheat I use 1% Flaked barley (So for your 5Kg 50g) with 4 times its weight (200g) of pale malt mashed separately at 35c for 15 minutes then raised to 68C and added to the main mash
