Raw Barley
Raw Barley
I've been given about 500g of raw barley. Anybody got any good ideas what I can do with this? If I can't come up with something I'll just plant it and see if it grows.
Re: Raw Barley
Lactic culture for Berliner Weisse or a Flemish soured ale?
Re: Raw Barley
you could try malting it, check out the thread im going to post on yet another attempt at home malting

Re: Raw Barley
In that small a quantity, why not just roast it? Unless you fancy attempting malting just for fun - you're not going to get a brewlength's worth out of it...

Roasting the darker malts is supposed to produce copious amounts of smoketomU wrote:In that small a quantity, why not just roast it? Unless you fancy attempting malting just for fun - you're not going to get a brewlength's worth out of it...

Agreed 500g of malt isn't going to make mcuh of a dent on a normal brewlength, but as you said it make a fun experiment and if he was to have any sucess he might persuade his friend to give him some brewlength quantities.
Or maybe i just wanted to draw attention to the fact that im giving homemalting a go

Re: Raw Barley
Maybe i'll wait and see the results of your home malting. If it is looking promising i'll plant it and hopefully have enough for a brew length.
