Price Drops on the Way?

Post by vacant » Sun Jun 14, 2009 6:17 pm

This article seems to be suggesting there could be a glut of malt. I wonder when this will filter through to retailers ... and how much will prices drop? :)

"indicators point to the demand for malt plummeting by more than 150,000 tonnes this year because of the impact of the credit crunch on distillers and brewers."
I brew therefore I ... I .... forget

I'd be very surprised if there were price drops. A cut in the price of malted barley will not encourage brewing of more ale. The high price of pub bought ale is more due to the rapacious amounts of tax in various forms the publicans have to pay on be half of HMG.

If the maltsters can't use it, it will probably go into animal feed.
