Where can i find the following?

Post by Deebee » Thu May 21, 2009 3:48 pm

Hi everyone.

this is my first post.

i just started AG and have had some success with a classic Pale ale , dry hopped in barrel with fuggles. Was very nice!

However i am looking for some other malts to try some of the other recipies i found here, I live in Norway nd can't seem to find thm.

kilo bags would be great in the start, as i can havemy folks or others snd them over to be.

I am looking for

pipkin Pale ale malt

Halcyon Pale Ale Malt
Prisma pale ale malt

North down Hops
And Galena hops?

can anyone point me in the right firections. I guess i want about 4 kilos of each of the malts an maybe 100 grams of the hops.

Any help greatly appreciated. links could be a good thing too, me and computers are not the best og friends.
;)

Thanks

Hi Deebee,

I wouldn't worry too much about which pale malt, but I'd recommend maris otter pale malt if you have a choice.

Anyway a quick search on google and I found the following blog mentioning supplies in Norway.

Hop and Grape is a popular UK shop with a good range.

Good luck. :)

The one mentioned in the blog has a range of malts but none of those mentioned. How will using a different malt effect the outcome of the brew?

Will it change things much?

Thanks

Hi Dave,

I'm not speaking with great authority regarding pale malt. Marris otter is what I use now, mainly because of availability, but also I'm very happy with the flavour. I do know pale malt choice will have a subtle effect on the overall result. Yeast, hops, water composition and fermentation temperature are going to play a more important factor. Recipes may quote a specific pale malt but remember breweries are likely to be guided by price and availabilty.

Regarding hops - aroma additions are the most important to get right but bittering hops you may get away with substitutions. I note http://www.barleybottom.com will have Northdown hops next week. I can't find galena at the moment, maybe try a US shop? Or,try a search on this site to see which hops have a similar flavour maybe?

If you're cloning a particular recipe you could post it in the recipes section and people will no doubt help with suggestions on substitutions etc.

Hi.
Its the innkeepers brew in the recipies section.

The other hops are not available here at the moment and transport from Sweden is almost double what the hops cost.

I have family and friends in the uk who can bring stuff over.

grapes and hops have both the hops although one is in pellet form.

The guys making the stuff are very particualr about the fermenting etc. They have build an insulated room in the cellar with themostate controlled heat, and are extremely particular about it.

We thought we might try something a little different, just a 25 liter brew initially and then if it turns out to be a good one, we'll invest in postage of malt etc and make a 150 batch:)

My pale ale is in mini kegs at the moment but i need another co2 dispenser/tap.

craftbrewer in australia has galena in pellet form (and new 09 crop too). craftbrewer has one of the best hop selections on the web IMHO
