Torrified Wheat
I've just bought some of this expecting the usual crushed up stuff that kinda looks like pop corn. However, I've received flaked this time. Is it the same stuff? I only ever use it for head retention.

Re: Torrified Wheat
No ideas at all lads?
Re: Torrified Wheat
Mine has always been crushed but I'm not actually sure what torrifying is. I'm guessing you have flaked wheat which will probably work just as well.

Hi floydmeddler
Not sure if you get your Torrefied wheat from me, I’ve recently changed suppliers. My old suppliers had the grain crushed, my the new suppliers torrefied wheat is rolled, if you crush it in your hands it looks the same as the old stuff.

Re: Torrified Wheat
Torrefied wheat and flaked wheat are slightly different, they are both unmalted. The torrefied wheat is heated quickly to get the kernal to puff up like popcorn. Flaked wheat is passed through hot rollers to gelatinise the starch. So a slightly different production process.
You can use either for head retention, I believe they have a slightly different flavour. Flaked wheat is very neutral so good for Belgian witbier (Hoegaarden etc). Torrefied is sometimes called 'nutty'. Malted wheat is another one you can use.

Hey lads, cheers for the replies!
Yes Paul, I got it from you. Happys days - as long as I can still use it for head retention. I only ever go for 100g so doubt flavour will come through.
Thanks for the fantastic service Paul. Your hops are the freshest I've ever used. Absolutely top class quality.

Got some from The Home Brew Shop in Aldershot a few weeks back and it was like this... Seems fine.
