Torrified Wheat
Torrified Wheat
I want to try GW's recipe for Pendle Witch, but I see that it includes torrified wheat. I can't get hold of this, easily but I have flaked barley: can I substitute one for the other, and if so, in what ratio?

Put the same amount in, I assume you are doing a Full Mash brew and not and Extract? You could always get some Flaked Wheat from a Health foods shop.
Re: Torrified Wheat
Would I be right in thinking that flaked wheat is much the same as corn flakes? So, on that track, would puffed wheat be a substitute for torrified wheat?

I think its something a few on the forum have done, Sugar puffs are going to have sugars and stuff in them too and I have no idea if they would make your Mash all gummy or not.

Corn flakes are flaked maize, as pdtnc says go for the health food shop no additives.Tippler wrote:Would I be right in thinking that flaked wheat is much the same as corn flakes? So, on that track, would puffed wheat be a substitute for torrified wheat?
Re: Torrified Wheat
or try wheat a flakes they also have rice in ( not the white powder poison lol) , 84% wheat and 15% rice I think. Try Tuckers maltings or other good brew shop.

Re: Torrified Wheat
You can also substitute wheat malt for torrefied wheat (at least i hope you can because I do sometimes!). Not sure if thats going to be any easier to find, though.
