rauchmalz

I have 1kg of rauchmalz that I plan on using in a smoked ale of sorts.
I've never used this malt before, but have tasted the likes of Schlenkerla Rauchbier, so know what a REALLY smoky beer tastes like. Thing is, I'm not sure how much 1kg would bring to a 4%ish beer - would I be better off gettin a bit more smoked malt??

Any suggestions gladly received!

Have used 1kg in a porter before and it was very faint. It's not anywhere near as smoky as smoked peat malt apparently. Give it a try. You should get something in the way of smokiness but I doubt it will be potent.

IF you want it to be near the authentic beer you'd need to use all an rauchmalt grain bill. Bit pricey but worth it.

Cheers for the feedback; I'll just have to choose whether I'll make do with a slightly smoky beer or get some more rauchmalz! Hmmmm..

Go with what you have, if it's too subtle you can use more next time, but you may find it perfect for your taste. I'd rather have too little of a new flavor than too much since too little will probably still be good to drink, but too much may not be.
I'm just here for the beer.
