Simpsons Coffee Malt...

Post by blueflint » Thu Dec 19, 2013 2:58 am

While visiting my LHBS today, I was looking thru their grain selection to see what they stocked and in the back of my head, I had a couple recipes in mind. I was really looking for a Pale Chocolate but all they had was Briess Chocolate 350L (which I use a lot) but no Pale Chocolate. I did notice they have Simpsons Coffee Malt (150L) and it looked a lot like what I was looking for. The color looked a little darker than the Thomas Fawcett Brown malt they also stock (also close to 150L). The smell of the Coffee Malt was rich. I asked the owner if he had used it or had any feedback from it but he had not nor had anyone say anything about it.

So...what can I expect from Simpsons Coffee Malt? I am thinking about using 7-10% in a Scottish 60/-. Any thoughts?

Thanks. Tony
