2 row stout recipe

Post by beer today » Sat Jan 04, 2014 10:43 pm

I'm looking at doing a big porter, OG 1085, however the recipe calls for US 2 row (Briess) malt.
I have some year old Halcyon, which I'd like to use up, and have read that MaltMillers Crisp Clear Choice Ale Malt is a reasonable substitute for the 2 row.
Any reason why I shouldn't go with the Crisp Ale Malt, and maybe chuck in some Halcyon ? #-o
cheers

Barley varieties are divided among 2-row and 6-row types. These are agricultural terms. I'm pretty sure every pale malt you grow over there is 2-row: Maris Otter, Halcyon, Pipkin, Pale Ale, Optic, Golden Promise, etc.

None at all. I doubt very much that anyone could tell which base malt you used in a 1.085 porter.
I'm just here for the beer.
