Malt strains (not kilning)...
Anybody have any strong recommendations for particular barley strains turned into malt?
Golden Promise gives a slightly maltier character compared to Maris Otter.
The lager malts Munich and Vienna add even more malt character.
Halcyon has similar properties to Maris Otter and is very popular these days with many breweries. I've brewed with it for the first time this evening (Moorhouses Pendle Witches Brew - Its a lancashire beer - Hey I've just realised it'll be ready just in time for Haloween
)
Pilsner malt is used as the base for most Belgian beers and of course Pilsners
