Bought some Perle last month for ~30 quid ($60). Thought that was a fair price since a kg is about $4

You should see the prices over here, an on line shop want €58 for 25Kg crushed Pale, computer says NO !, bypassed everyone and direct from the Malting Company €50 for 80 Kg, so would I like to pay €2.32 per KG or 62 cent per KG, it must cost a fortune to mill the grain, either that or someone is making a lot of money, I am all for supporting the local HB shop but there are limits. Granted I need to bulk buy, but a few of us get a load together and that problem is solved, I should go crushing grain for a living, this baby will handle 25 Kg in about 1 min

All of you would be very well advised to get in touch with a local Micro and see if they'll order you an extra sack of grain or two. Last time I bought a sack it was about £12.

Be careful about naming places you get any cheap/bulk deals from. There are people/companies out there who read this forum and have a vested interest in stopping direct sales. Can't say too much but "walls have ears" and dodgy (some might say monopolistic) actions have occurred recently.

I have no concerns with naming the supplier that sold me 2 sacks of Warminster Pale for 60 quid . . . It was Hamstead Homebrew . . . If a retailer is selling enough to justify dealing direct and they pass those savings on to us, I have no problems in dealing with them. If certain wholesalers don't like it, perhaps they need to look at how to keep competitive.

In fact there are several reasons why they cannot compete with the local micro selling a sack of grain although I do suspect its more than just VAT and delivery onto the price
