Good Malt suppliers in the SouthEast
Do you know of any good shops... or even bad one's so I don't go there...
I get all my stuff on the web these days. Decent home brew shops are pretty thin on the ground now.
I have used 'Leyland Homebrew' and 'The Home Brew Shop' online, and they both seem to be pretty reliable. There are links on my main website.
The only other shops I have used are Gemini in Newcastle and another one (who's name I forget) in Whitley Bay. There are no others that I know of in this region.

I've dug up a bit of an old post here I know. But Jim, I used to visit someone a couple of years ago in Chester-Le-Street.
Whilst up there I checked out Home Brew Shops in your area. Gemini in Newcastle seemed more of a gift shop realy, with not a fantastic stock of home brew. But I did find a good shop in Houghton-Le-Spring which I don't think would be too far from you. I can't remember the name of the place now though.
It was in the high street area if I remember correctly, I think it was pedestrian only. But I found the guys in there very helpful & knowledgeable. They also seemed to carry quite a good stock too.
Just thought this might be of interest to you in case you haven't found this shop yet.

25Kg crushed MO - £15
I visited http://www.icenibrewery.co.uk recently and nearly fell over when they agreed to sell me a 25KG bag of MO - malted locally and crushed on their premises within the last couple of days - for 15 quid.
They also sold me a kilo of brewers gold for 7 quid.
Very Very Very nice people - try a bottle or two of 'snowdrop' while you're there!

That's where I get my MO as well - I'm about 10-15 miles away from them.Gurgeh wrote:I visited http://www.icenibrewery.co.uk recently and nearly fell over when they agreed to sell me a 25KG bag of MO - malted locally and crushed on their premises within the last couple of days - for 15 quid.

When I lived in Hertfordshire I used to go to the Happy Brewer in Bedford. I've also had malt from Banks and Taylor brewery in Shefford (it was uncrushed IIRC).
