Storage Question

This may seem like a silly question but I'm having trouble visualising how big a 25kg sack of grain is and how I'm going to store it.

I have a couple of spare 25l buckets - would fit in two of these? Am I better off just storing it in the sack it comes in?

It depends where you are going to store it. If it is in the garage or anywhere else that mice might get at it it might be better in the buckets. I keep mine in the original sack in a spare bedroom along with the rest of my brewing kit.

If it helps, I store a 25 kg sack of grain (still in the sack) in a 60L drum like one of these (only bigger)

They're a tight squeeze but they do fit.

Thanks all - My sack's arriving later today from Barley Bottom so the spare room might be the best bet for now.

I did see this on ebay today that I thought might be suitable... Seems a tad dear at Â£19 for a plastic barrel though.

Farmers etc seem to have these things so maybe you could get one locally?

Good thinking - there's a friendly farm down the road from me where we go to pick-your-own during the summer so might have to enquire there

I recently got a black dustbin off freecycle with a lid that I now keep my grain sack in.

It's currently sitting under the stairs - it seems quite happy there but I may have to move it outside to the old coal store at some point. I've seen mice hanging around out there before so I'll have to either decant into some old FVs or get a dustbin/large container.

Following an episode where mice got at my grain in the garage, I store mine in a black plastic dustbin - Â£9 from Homebase.
