Simpson's Maris Otter Malt

Post by BarryC » Wed Apr 08, 2009 7:45 am

Good Day
I live in Sydney. I just went to my local homebrew shop to buy a sack of Maris Otter. They use to have Bairds, recently they have had Thomas Fawcett's Maris Otter, but this time they were selling Simpson's. Does anyone have any comments or evaluation of Simpson's Maris Otter compared to the others?
All the best, Barry.

I've never seen it in the homebrew trade over here (it's mostly Muntons, Fawcetts and Warminster) but Simpsons are a good maltster and used by a number of the East Anglian breweries.

My latest sack of MO is Simpsons. It came from my local HB store in North Cambs. The previous sack I bought from the same place was Munton's. I have not used the Simpson's yet so I cannot comment on the beer quality but the grains look, feel and taste as I would expect. The price was a couple of quid cheaper than the previous Munton's one.

Just bumping this to see if there are any updates as I'm contemplating a bag myself. It seems to be usurping Bairds MO down here.
