Buying Grain in a syndicate

Hi All,

I had heard that many homebrewers reduce costs by joining together in a syndicate & bulk buying grain directly from the maltsters.

Is this the case & if so, does anyone know of a group in the Yorkshire/Lancashire area that I might be able to join with?
