I happen to have some puffed wheat and wondered whether I can use it in place of torified wheat, I also have barley flakes, is that a suitable replacement?
Sugar Puffs without the sugar :D

It looks a bit like micro popcorn still in a husk. If that makes sense :?

This is what Wiki has to say about it
Flaked barley is unmalted, dried barley which has been rolled into flat flakes. It imparts a rich, grainy flavor to beer and is used in many stouts, especially Guinness stout; it also improves head formation and retention.
Torrefied wheat is used in British brewing to increase the size and retention of a head in beer. Generally it is used as an enhancer rather than for its flavor.

GW's book covers it in more detail though.

I think you can swap one for the other without problems :D

I would not want to put a lot in, they take a lot of tun space up. Thanks for clearing up what it was, seems to appear in a lot of recipes and thought I should get some. I'll pick up some chocolate malt at the weekend then I can cover most recipes (I have xtal and black malt).

Might as well pick up a few cans of Cooper's stout whilst I'm at it

I like to use Wheat Malt as a subsitute for any recipes using Torrefied Wheat.
Planning - Not for a long while

Fermenting - I'm Done

Bottle Maturing - Hobgoblin, Fullers ESB, American Stout, TOP, Fullers London Porter, Bandini Black IPA

Drinking - Still...Whiskey
