Ingredient Suppliers

Post by NickP » Thu Sep 03, 2009 6:13 pm

Hi

I looking to do my first AG brew my equipment is now in order, I have a recipe book to follow, and all I need now is to find supplies. I live in the Wolverhampton area and was wondering if anyone knows of a local place to get all of the ingredients from, or if anyone can recommend a good internet supplier :?:

Barley Bottom are superb for hops. The grain prices are also good but grain, being heavy, does attract higher postage prices.
Hop and Grape are a good online supplier and some suppliers, like Leyland, will give you free postage if you spend enough (about £60 I seem to remember).

If you are looking for someone local to you then take a look thrugh this thread:

You might find a place close to you.

Have used Barley Bottom, ive been searching around for a while and at some point I need to "just get on with it" so hopefully in the next few days it should all arrive, shame about the postage its a real killer (no disrespect to BB)

its a shame postage costs are so high everywhere.
If you can, plan a few brews in advance to make the most of the delivery costs.
I'm local to BB so when I have to use Hop & Grape for yeast etc it not nice incurring their £4.50ish delivery charge for something worth l the same price!

Even with P&P the Barleybottom prices are the best. Much cheaper than my local HBS.

Indeed P&P always seems over inflated no matter what you buy from where, oh well at least I will have around 40 pints with which to forget about it

I second barley bottom, quick service and I've even sought advice out of hours!
I've only bought ag kits so far, one of which was not on offer untill after I received it. Paul is very knowledgeable and informative.

BB is great for hops - excellent price and quality. I get my malt elsewhere,if only to avoid the p+p heavy malt attracts. Anyways,I decided to get a brew on,early this morning. I was out of malt so nipped to the local HBS to get enough for my impromptu batch. It was only after I'd paid my money and was walking away with my purchase that I realised the degree to which I'd been well and truly shafted - £7.99 for 3Kg of crushed pale. Oh well, hope the ale kinda justifies that.... I'm thinking I'd have been much better off getting a Cooper's kit and enhancing it accordingly.

After searching about and much deliberation, I opted for Barley Bottom, and I got an excelent response and everything I wanted the heavy P&P is a problem but i bulked up the order to get enough for stuff for a few brews, so it makes it a bit less painfull when you add it to the price of a pint

He's got my business*

* except for 25kg sacks of mo which I can source for £16. well rude not to at that price. 8)
