Low Colour Maris Otter

Post by floydmeddler » Sun Nov 08, 2009 9:15 pm

I've just picked up a 25kg sack of Maris Otter from a brewery and have just realised that it is 'Low Colour'. Does this mean I'll have to add more to get a full flavour? Also, will the efficiency be the same as their standard MO?

Cheers

I use it a lot, yes it is not quite as malty as the standard stuff, good in blonde ales and suchlike.

Would it still be successful in stouts and dark ales? :( :( :(

Its just a base malt and a good one at that so there is no reason why it shouldn't be good for stouts and dark ales as long as you are adding the correct amount of coloured and roasted malt.

Yeah i'm drinking a chocolate beer I made with it. If you need to bump up the maltiness use some Munich malt.
