imperial malt

hi
this is my first post, i am an australian brewer with a particular interest in british, particularly english ales, i have had some success in this field over the years due entirely to some excellent local advice but am always wanting to expand my mind.
now i have a qty of imperial malt (it may be a simpsons maltings tm cause i have not seen it elsewhere). i note that is in the malt listing of GW's Beer Engine so figure its not that obscure.
my question is do many people use it and how, my impressions are that it similar to melanoidan, perhaps a tad lighter?

I've got some and just used it in a standard bitter. Still in the fermenter though. Tasted OK before dryhopping.
