quality of malt

Post by dazer23866 » Mon Feb 07, 2011 9:35 pm

I just wondered if there are different quality's of malt extract, the first brew i had done was with a coopers pale malt witch was great,
the second using a premium malt at half the price which just tasted like everything that home brew used to taste like years ago when i had a go at brewing and thought it just doesn't taste like anything i would like to drink much of,
I suppose you get what you pay for would this sound about right

You've hit the nail on the head, there are different grades of extract, you need to get one specifically for brewing and it also must be fresh. What was the one that was half the price?

thanks for the reply
The extract was for brewing got it from a local Homebrew store no lable just in a foil bag.
Everything looks ok and its drinkable (JUST) it just tastes like homebrew if that makes any sence most of my freinds say cant drink much of that.
my other brew they loved it never belived i brew it.
So i thought maybe there is good quality malt extract for brewing and not so good quality malt extract for brewing
