Crystal Rye

Post by alwilson » Thu Mar 31, 2011 5:10 pm

Howdy All,

I want to use Crystal Rye in my next Brew, particularly after trying Brains' Milk Wood earlier in the week. And by trying, I mean I spent the night on it :)

Is there anything I should bear in mind using Crystal Rye? Does it go gloopy like regular Rye? I was going to add Malted Oats anyway for mouth feel, but these will be crushed, so I guess that wont bring anything to the potential run off problem?

Any advice appreciated

Cheers

Crystal rye is a new one on me, but I would think any problems you have with regular rye you would also have with the crystal form of it. or chocolate rye which I have heard of.
I'm just here for the beer.

Cheers Rookie.

As its a Crystal, can I use it directly in the boil in a grain bag to prevent a stuck mash?

Milkwood! Had some of that at the weekend. Bloody 'andsome pint!
I'd have a crack at brewing that one.
Needs more Cowbell.

Bloody Right.

Even the girls liked it... Though they'd prefer it colder and fizzier. Meh.

I've never used it, but I think it can be steeped like other crystal malts.
