Identifying grain
Identifying grain
A while back I bought a selection of grains from a homebrew shop that I happened to be passing. I should have checked things more closely, but though I know I asked for "flaked barley" (I had a shopping list), the label says "flaked wheat". Can anyone tell me how to determine which it is, or should I donate it to the wife for muesli?

I think you might struggle to tell the difference just by looking.
The percentage call is that the label is correct and that the shop sold you them in error.

Re: Identifying grain
Flaked wheat is much bulkier, larger flakes and is lighter in colour with white flecks. Flaked barley tends to be more uniform in shape and less bulky, heavier. If it looks like muesli it's wheat!
