Storing Malts

Post by Niall K » Tue Jun 05, 2007 8:24 am

What’s the best way of storing speciality malts such as chocolate malt and crystal malts. I buy them crushed. The pale malts are not a problem storing as I only buy the right quantity for brewing. The other malts I only use 250grams normally out of 1 kg bags. How long do they last in storage?

Not saying its the best way

I double bag them and store them in air tight containers.
A label on the outside with the contents and the weight.

Storage time might depend on malt as Hop and Grape crushed malt have best before dates ranging from 6 months or 9 months from packed date.
Fermenter(s): Lambic, Wheat beer, Amrillo/Cascade Beer
Cornys: Hobgoblin clone, Four Shades Stout, Wheat Beer, Amarillo/Cascade Ale, Apple Wine, Cider, Damson Wine, Ginger Beer
