A while back I made a TTL clone that was OK apart from a lingering burnt taste. At the time I put this down to some burning in my boiler.
I have since discovered that Crystal Malt can impart a burnt flavour and in this recipe I did add additional Crystal Malt.
This week I brewed an American IPA and used 5600g of Maris Otter and 500g Crystal 90.
Will this brew also have a burnt taste?
If it does could I make a similar batch with no Crystal and match them together to thus reduce the burnt taste if any?
Too much Crystal?
Re: Too much Crystal?
500g crystal 90 seems an awful lot for a apa, was it fairly dark?
Crystal malt is best at a ratio of 5-10% so the 8 or so % shouldn't give off a burnt flavour..
