alternative to torrified wheat

Post by timbo41 » Wed Jan 14, 2015 8:51 pm

Folks just lately been doing a lot of kit moddding....the normal thing, steep of speciality malts, add to dme add hops at boil for a short period...all into a fairly bland or uninspired kit. I'm missing that nice mouthfeel and head retention that I can get when I add torry or oats to a mash though. I've tried crystal malts and that helps but not quite the same. A good dollop of carapils has been suggested....any other suggestions. I'd prefer to not use too much crystal, can be a bit sickly. Yes I could partial mash, but then I could go back to ag....if I didn't have a thousand other things on at moment, so a steeping solution preferred please
Oh incidentally I tend to cold steep overnight

How about golden naked oats? I think they only need steeping. Not sure, though.

Carapils or malted flaked oats.
