Mild ale malt
Mild ale malt
In the mild section of BYORAAH it asks for mild ale malt in the recipes, i've not seen any at my local hbs, is it much different from pale malt? could i get away with using pale?
Re: Mild ale malt
Yes, you can use pale malt. Mild Ale malt is very slightly darker (6 EBC rather than 5 EBC), but when used in conjunction with other dark malts you won't notice the difference in colour.louthepoo wrote:In the mild section of BYORAAH it asks for mild ale malt in the recipes, i've not seen any at my local hbs, is it much different from pale malt? could i get away with using pale?
Very few brewers produce a mild ale these days, so I expect that mild ale malt is not as easily available as in times past.

That would work. Or maybe half 2 row and half munich.
On the other hand I may be being anal, but I never brew a mild without mild ale malt.
My next two brews are going to be a best bitter and a mild.
I'm just here for the beer.
