Perle Hops

Post by periolus » Sat Jul 21, 2012 8:33 am

Hi!

I am planning a recipe that would use Perle hops, but was a little put off by a something I read on the internet that described qualities of leek and celeriac. Whereas I love these vegetables, I'm not sure I would want their flavours in my beer!

Can anyone let me know a bit more about Perle? I am planning on using it alongside Sorachi Ace and Cluster in this recipe.

Thanks!

I would say more similar to noble hops. Go for it, nice hops

Good german bittering hop, used it a few times with no problems/leek and celariac taste, never used as aroma though but can't see why not they smell alright!

I've used them in an SNPA clone, certainly no leek or celeriac in that!

Perle is very delicate in aroma, mixing it with American hops will certainly defeat its purpose, its minty taste will be hidden too. I love it in blonde ales and light lagers, it's one of my hops of choice for summer brews.

great bittering hop, very firm and herbal/earthy... Does come across more bitter than the ibu suggest, gives a impression of stronger perceived ibu
