AA Content in Graham Wheeler 'Brew Your Own British Real Ale
I have just received my copy of Graham Wheeler's 'Brew Your Own British Real Ale'. Full of lots of great recipes. One thing I noticed is that on the recipe pages with the hops it does not give the A/A's of the hops used. But on page 21 it gives the typical alpha acid content of some of the common hop varieties on a chart. Would I be correct in assuming that they were the actual alfa acid content in the hops at the time the recipes were made?

Yep - well nearly. They are the ten-year averages for the breed. That is about all that can be done when publishing recipes - cos, alpha is such a variable parameter.Niall K wrote:I have just received my copy of Graham Wheeler's 'Brew Your Own British Real Ale'.
