Re: Group hop buy?
haha glad they have all arrived safe. I wish you could have all smelt what those silver bags smelt like when they were full of 5kgs of hops!
The vac packer I use is this one, i'd recommend it highly to anyone.

Hope everyone is well stocked now! Its a lot of hardwork running one of those so I really do appreciate the positive responses, thanks, and enjoyment factor from other forum members. The wife thinks i'm mad for doing it, but women dont understand the power of hops
I reckon i've got one more group buy in me, then I should have enough hops to retire for a year or so. But that depends on what 2015 hops are available to us mear not contracted mortals. Apparently the 2015 hops come available in January, it maybe the case that there isnt anything much more than English hops and Cascade available outside of contract (brewers use 3/4 year contracts to buy up in advance).
I think the harvest year is key. The guy at the hop merchant was adamant it didn't make any difference (and I trust him, nice chap). However if i'm honest I was overwhelmed how fresh the 2015 Magnum hops smelt, and slightly underwhelmed how the 2013 Athanum hops smelt compared to say the 2014 Cascade. Will be interested to see what other people think, i'm sure he is right and they are all great. But from here on in i'm only doing super fresh 2015 hops I reckon.
I will post back here in January when we know whats available, hopefully there will be some interesting stuff for us, otherwise it might just be more Cascade all round!!
Enjoy your hops people! And thanks again for the support.

Although the athumum hops may not smell much,
but when you brew with them, but most importantly the beer has had a bit of time to condition, I think you will be very impressed, I know I have.

Re: Group hop buy?
Good advice thanks! If I had to judge hops on smell alone Columbus would be the stand out winner, really powerful big dry hop ipa smell to them, loved it! Clearly its not that simple!Wonkydonkey wrote:Although the athumum hops may not smell much,![]()

Re: Group hop buy?
Thats a fair shout.
Once the 2015 hops are released in Jan I will know what is available. But the idea of a combo pack of a few packs might work for people.
Thanks
Ed
